Recommendations

Adult Horse Vaccines:

  • VEWT- Annually
  • F/R Injectable- Performance horse- every 3-4 months, Pleasure horse-every 6 months.F/R Intranasal- Every 6 months.
  • WNV- Initial vaccine, booster in 4 weeks, then annually. Can be vaccinated every 6 months if at high risk.
  • Strangles- Recommend if there is a premise problem or farm problem. Once a farm has had it, it is hard to prevent disease in new horses. Initial vaccine and a booster 2-3 weeks later, then annually.
  • EVA- Annually for colts intended to be breeding stallions.
  • Rabies- Annually

Foals/Weanling Vaccinations from Non-vaccinated Mares:

  • Tetanus Antitoxin (TAT)- At birth
  • VEWT – Initial at 3-4 months, booster at 4-5 months, and another booster at 10-12 months.
  • F/R Injectable- Initial at 6 months, booster at 7 months and 10-12 months. For foals that are to be shown consult veterinarian.
  • Strangles- Initial at 6-9 months, booster 3 weeks later, and another at 11-12 months of age.
  • EVA- Intact colts intended to be breeding stallions: One dose at 6 to 12 months of age.
  • WNV- Initial at 3-4 months, booster 4 weeks later, and a 3rd dose at 10-12 months in endemic areas.
  • Rabies- Initial at 3-4 months, booster in 4 weeks, and another booster at 10-12 months.

  • Rhino- Vaccinate at 5th, 7th, and 9th month of pregnancy.
  • FEWT- Vaccinate at 10 months of pregnancy.
  • Rotavirus- Vaccinate at 8th, 9th, and 10th month of pregnancy.
  • WNV- Vaccinate at 10 months of pregnancy.
  • EVA- Annually for seronegative, open mares before breeding to carrier stallions; isolate mares for 21 days after breeding to carrier stallion.
  • Rabies- Vaccinate at 10 months of pregnancy.
